West of the crest of the Allegheny Mountains--
One unbroken expanse of virgin wilderness....
Two peoples, red and white, locked in a conflict
Of culture and race for supremacy over those lands
In a struggle and an outcome determined only
By unrelenting savage warfare.
The Indian lands of the Ohio Country bordering the frontier of
Great Britain's colonies in America would serve as the stage
for nearly fifty years of bloody warfare between indigenous
native-American tribes and colonial setters streaming across
the mountains from Pennsylvania and Virginia in search of free
land and a new way of life. That epic struggle would culminate
in the savage battle for British and Indian control of the Ohio
Country against the Patriot cause during the American Revolution.
These words and images are in keeping with that struggle in that
time long past. They serve to reveal and relate, to record and remind
us of those people, both red and white, who sacrificed everything
for what they believed to be true in America's 18th-century wars. |
